The WestGamer moderators spend considerable time every week keeping these forums running, and unfortunately around HALF of the stuff that we have to deal with relates to activity in the Trading Post. There are some simple rules that you are required to follow as a condition of using these forums, and there are unfortunately still quite a few people who have either not bothered to read them, or are purely ignorant. I have deleted 6 threads on sight this morning alone as a result of this.

Here are the 5 most frequent errors that people are making - and tips to avoid a moderator's wrath:
______________________________________________________
TRADING BY PRIVATE MESSAGE is prohibited on the WestGamer trading post.
This is number one on our hit list. Do not conduct trades by PM, ask questions about trade items by PM, send pictures of items by PM, or request buyers contact you by PM. The same goes for using other non-thread communication like leaving e-mails or phone numbers. By using the WestGamer Trading Post you are consenting to our rules which means conducting all relevant sales communication in the sale thread itself. Once a sale or trade agreement has been made - THEN you may use these other methods to contact each other about postage, pickup, etc.

TAKING OFFERS is prohibited on the WestGamer trading post.
If you want to haggle or negotiate on price - then the WestGamer trading post is not the place for your items. This includes posting phrases like "I'd be willing to consider less" or "$X or nearest offer (ono)". The same goes for buyers. Do not make offers. Look at the price posted. If you think it is too expensive - you may say so and wait for the seller to change it themselves.

NOT INCLUDING PRICES is prohibited on the WestGamer trading post.
If you are selling, then this is not an option - it is compulsory. (Trades only are fine without prices) Users should also be clear in regards to pricing for multiple instances of the same item (is it $X for one, or all of them?). Do not include a price "range" either, as this breaks the rule above relating to taking offers. Pick a price and stick to it. You can always drop it later if no-one bites.

LINKING TO EXTERNAL SALES is prohibited on the WestGamer trading post.
We don't care if it is your item or not. If you wish to link to an external sale as a topic of interest (for example - look at the quality of this item's paint job!), then that post belongs in another thread - not the Trading Post. We don't have an issue with you selling the same item in multiple locations across the web, but if you are doing this - do not link to the other sales from here. Doing so allows users to subvert the trading rules which are here to protect them whilst trading on WestGamer. Linking to pictures off-site is of course fine, so long as it is just pictures and not another sale thread. As a general rule - any info that you would have to post in the sale thread here in order to sell your item - should indeed appear in the sale thread here.

THREAD "BUMPING" is prohibited on WestGamer - period.
Posting single word/sentence meaningless nonsense (like "bump!") just to bring your thread to the top of the pile so that people can see it will bring the mod-hammer down on you hard. Note that there is a big difference between this and posting an update to a sale thread. If you want to get your thread back on top of the pile - you can - but make sure you are adding something constructive or some new information. Posting something like "Price drop for quick sale." is fine. Posting "So, any takers?" is not.
______________________________________________________
Threads or posts that ignore these simple rules will either be locked, modified, deleted on sight, or result in a cautionary PM or a formal warning. Repeat offences risk further action which can include exclusion from the Trading Post or WestGamer altogether. We do not wish to take the heavy handed approach - but I'm afraid that the sheer number of posts we are currently having to moderate is leading us to this need.

As always, if you have any questions about the Trading Post rules (or the WestGamer Rules in general) - contact a moderator before posting. The mods (and myself) are a very friendly bunch and are more than happy to help those who are doing the right thing! However, just like in the real world - ignorance of the "law" is no excuse.

Feel free to ask any questions here as well, and one of us will steer you in the right direction. Also a big thank-you to those of you who are doing the right thing (and especially those who are raising awareness to those who aren't). Keep it up.

I'm guessing these same rules applies to the "magic trading den?" I would think so, but as they are technically different forums I thought it was worth a clarification.

Good question.

The Magic Trading Den forum has its own rules for use here. These are mostly the same as the main WestGamer Trading Post, but there are some small changes made due to the unique and specific nature of the items being bought/sold/traded.

In general - the 5 tips above are the same. The main difference of note is that due to the nature of card trading, it is perfectly acceptable to haggle/negotiate on a trade, as there may be many combinations of cards involved in what each side is willing to offer. Forum ettiquite regarding not jumping on someone elses trade is still expected.

It is also ok for this to involve a portion of $ in the trade as well, but if it results in a purely "cash for cards" situation - then the rules above apply and a price must be stated without further negotiation on the amount so that all parties have the option of the sale also.

Hopefully that's clear enough.
